The ‘need to knows’ for this week

  • On their first day, students will arrive on site at 8:30am and be welcomed straight into the main hall.
  • We will have staff in high viz jackets across the front entrance courtyard to direct and support
  • Students should wear their current school uniform on both days.
    • Black school shoes are required
    • Shirts and ties worn correctly
    • Skirts at an appropriate length
    • Leggings/jeans are not permitted
    • Coats removed when inside the building
  • Mobile phones are not permitted to be used on site, so must be switched off and put away (in a bag, not a pocket) – ideally, they are not brought to school at all.
  • A packed lunch on day one is requested. The second day, we will provide a lunch for students in our café.
  • Students who are in receipt of Free School Meals will have a packed lunch provided by Stratton School.
  • Students are required to bring a school bag with a lunch, pencil case, calculator, and a water bottle. Any student arriving without a bag or equipment will need a parent to drop this off at school as a matter of priority.
  • The school day will end at 3:10pm.
  • Parents wishing to stay for a tour can wait in the main hall where members of the SLT will be present to answer any questions.
  • The site tour will last approximately 30 mins and refreshments will be available

On the second day

  • Students will be told where to register on this day, and will head straight to that location, arrival from 8:30am.
  • All students must be in registration, ready to learn by 8:40am.
  • We will provide a lunch for students on day 2, but students are welcome to bring their own packed lunches.
  • As with day one, uniform and equipment requirements are the same

Dear new families and students,

2024 is an amazing, albeit unique, transition experience for our community. We are opening Stratton School and welcoming Years 7, 8 and 9 as well as our latest cohort of Y12s into the Matt King Sixth Form.

As such, it is a privilege to formally welcome you to Stratton School as our last ever Y9 intake, and first Y7 and Y8 intakes since 1973!

Thank you for choosing Stratton School and well done for securing a place – we have a considerable waiting list in Year 9 and Year 8 this year and this marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for all of us. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome you to Stratton School. I have recorded a short message for families and students here  https://youtu.be/Clxqokxrb3I

Starting secondary school is a significant milestone in every student's life, and I want to assure you that we are here to support and guide you every step of the way. Our dedicated team of teachers and staff are committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential aligned to our values.  I appreciate moving to a two-tier model is a new experience for many of you, but I want to assure you that our school community is welcoming and supportive. We are here to help you settle in, make new friends, and embrace all the opportunities that our secondary school has to offer.

Save the date Tuesday 2nd July.

We will be holding a Family Information Evening for each of our new year groups, where you will have a chance to meet the Pastoral leaders, SEND team and other key members of staff.  The event will start for new Year 7s at 5:45pm, in the Main Hall initially and then split into house areas. New year 8s will meet at 6:45pm and new year 9s will meet at 7:45pm. If you have children joining us in multiple years, you only need to attend one event.

We are all very excited to meet you and embark on this journey together. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any member of our team if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help in any way we can.

Students

Starting a new school can be a mixture of emotions. Excitement for the next stage in your development can sometimes be conflicted with a fear of change and new routines. We have created this book therefore to walk you through they key things you need to know ahead of starting with us. It is of course not possible to remember everything, so this can be your ready reckoner which you can refer back to as often as you need to.

Stratton School – A new name, but a school steeped in History!

2024 saw us admit Years 7 and 8 for the first time since 1973 as Central Bedfordshire aligned to the Primary and Secondary model removing the 3 tier system. However, although Stratton School opened ‘officially’ this year, we have served the community of Biggleswade and surrounding villages since 1950. Previously known as Stratton Upper School and Stratton (Grammar) School, there is a rich history of education and we are incredibly proud of our Old Strattonians (alumni).
