Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Stratton School is very pleased to run the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The Award is all about going the extra mile – gaining new skills, pushing yourself physically, helping others and exploring new activities. At the same time, you’ll gather friendships, experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.

The Award is more than just an expedition, it’s a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself and spend time outside of your comfort zone; giving back to the community and developing your own skill set. You can choose the activities that motivate you (many are already available at School as extra-curricular options) and go on your own personal journey. We know from other participants that the DofE helps you stand out from the crowd when you apply for university and jobs.

In order to complete the award, you need to spend 1-hour a week on each of the different sections. These are; Physical, Volunteering and Skill. Examples of activities that meet the requirements of the section can be seen at the bottom of the page.

DofE Extra-Curricular Club

You will need to attend the Monday lunch-time club and the Monday after-school club to gather the necessary information and tools to pass the course. The lunch-time club focuses on the administration side of the award, you’ll need to stay on top of this throughout the year so we can monitor your progress. The Monday after-school club is focused on the expedition section, these sessions are great fun and an opportunity to develop your map reading, cooking and putting up a tent skills!

eDofE

You will be allocated an individual eDofE account which can be accessed via smart phone, tablet, laptop or PC. You are required to enter personal details, along with submitting activity ideas for approval by the DofE Manger.

Only once the activity has been approved should your participation commence as outlined above. You should evidence attendance with activity logs and completion with an assessor’s report, which you upload onto your eDofE account and submit for approval by the DofE Manager. Once they approve the final section activity as completed, the account is automatically forwarded for verification.

Any queries during this process, either from the DofE Manager or DofE Verifier, will see participants alerted through a message to their eDofE account.

Expedition

Before anyone can start their expedition, they will need to have completed the Physical, Skill and Volunteering section of the award. There will be a practice expedition and then the actual expedition; both will take place in the summer term. More information regarding the dates of the expedition will be posted at a later date. Please see attached at the bottom of this page information regarding kit packing and the 20 conditions of the expedition section.
